Primary health relates to professional health care received in the community, usually from your GP or practice nurse. Primary health care provides an entry point to the health system, delivers core medical and preventative care and helps patients co-ordinate and integrate their care.
Waitemata DHB provides a range of secondary health services to its population, these are services that primary providers refer their patients to predominantly to receive Hospital based care for people living within the catchment of WDHB. These include: Adult Health Services, Child Woman and Family Services, Home and Older Adult Services and Mental Health Services.
Tertiary health services are generally provided from one site or facility and service a whole region of the country or the whole country. Examples of Tertiary services include the burns unit at Middlemore Hospital and some Paediatric services run from Starship Hospital.
